Q: I wanted to ask about the $35 million that has been earmarked to be dispersed to Mavericks employees in the wake of the sale. I texted with one employee who said that after she received the email that she cried for an hour. How was that decision made and why was it important for you to do that?It was an easy decision. We’ve always worked very hard to treat our team well. We’ve been successful and we’ve been very fortunate to be successful.
I’ll give you a reference: In March of ‘20, Vegas closed. I remember the pandemic like it was yesterday. This was a very, very difficult time. And we were sitting around in the conference room, we got a call from the state and they said you need to shut. And we realized that it wasn’t going to be for two days. We had to make a decision: “What do you do with our team?”
Now we were a little unique because we had such long-tenure people at our property. And we have people been with us since the beginning, since the opening. They were called Founders. I want to say about 15% of our total staff. I think 40% of our staff had had been with us for more than a decade.Constantly lowest turnover in Vegas. And right there, after the call from the state, we made the decision to pay everybody.
And so when this transaction happened — and Mark had been very successful in the sale — it was the right thing to do to give something back.
