Philippine patent registrations rose 9 percent in the first six months of 2023, while utility models and industrial design applications
saw consistent growth every month, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines said Thursday.
Data showed that applications for patent registration increased to 2,134 in the first half from 1,958 a year ago. Non-residents accounted for 90 percent of registrations with 1,916 applications, while resident filings made up the remaining 10 percent with 218 filings. Filings for utility models rebounded from the pandemic lows and posted 27.7 percent growth to 835 from 654. UMs are patent-like IPs deemed to protect innovations.
