UPDATE: A passenger was found dead inside a burned stolen car following a crash in San Jose early this morning, but the driver was nowhere to be found, police say.

The wreck happened at about 1:30 a.m. in the area of Meridian Avenue and Woodruff Drive, according to police.

The unidentified driver, who may have been speeding, was travelling northbound on Meridian Avenue when they apparently lost control and slammed into a tree, police said.
