Garcia: Parscale’s texts expose the phoniness of his public support for Trump

Parscale, a 6-foot, 8-inch Kansas native who moved to San Antonio in the mid-‘90s to play basketball at the University of Texas at San Antonio, never voted in a Bexar County primary election until 2016. But he caught on quickly and constructed a social-media persona for himself modeled on Trump’s attack-dog style.
Trump lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden but refused to concede. On Jan. 6, 2021, Trump supporters, who believed his false allegations that the election had been stolen, stormed the U.S. Capitol in a bid to block the certification of Biden’s win. Parscale, however, could not get past the death of Ashli Babbitt, an insurrectionist who tried breaking into the Capitol through a smashed window near the Speaker’s Lobby and was shot by a Capitol police officer.Parscale mused on how he would feel “if I was Trump and knew my rhetoric killed someone.”“Yes it was,” Parscale responded.
Seven weeks after the insurrection, Parscale reportedly met with Trump and talked with him about handling digital marketing for the former president. What are we to make of the cavernous gap between Parscale’s private laments and his public cheerleading?
