Former presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo criticized President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s reorganization of the National Security Council ( NSC ), calling Vice President Sara Duterte 's removal as a member ' dirty politics ' aimed at diminishing her political influence. Panelo said the removal of former presidents Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Joseph Estrada from the NSC was a 'guise' to make it appear that Vice President Duterte was not the target.
He argued that the NSC's reconstitution was an 'ill-advised' presidential move. National Security Adviser Eduardo Año defended the reorganization, stating that it was necessary to enhance the formulation of policies affecting national security and ensure timely and coherent action to address current and emerging threats. According to Executive Order signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on December 30, the NSC's Executive Committee will be chaired by the President
