Palestinian health officials say two Palestinian men were killed by Israeli troops in an army raid in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus.

The army said its soldiers came under fire during the raid and shot back, confirming “hits.” The U.S. has tried to broker talks between Israel, Jordan, Egypt and the Palestinians to try to defuse tensions during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, now in its second week.
Israel says most of those killed have been militants. But stone-throwing youths protesting the incursions and people not involved in the confrontations have also been killed.
