THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) is monitoring two low pressure areas (LPAs) outside and inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) that may enhance the southwest monsoon.

Weather specialist Obet Badrina on Monday said these two weather disturbances will unlikely develop into tropical depressions.'But they will both enhance the southwest monsoon or 'habagat' in bringing rain especially over Mindanao,' he said.Pagasa said that the LPA inside PAR was estimated 875 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon while the other was 1,960 east-northeast of Eastern Visayas.

Badrina said the trough of the LPA is affecting Batanes and Babuyan Islands where overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail. The same weather condition is likely in Zamboanga Peninsula, he added.Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon along with the localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated downpour or thunderstorms in Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
