Padres fans were chanting the same thing over and over and over all night — so what would beating L.A. really mean to San Diegans?
Be it at bars and restaurants — around the county, not just downtown — on trolleys, along sidewalks, from honking cars. One voice became dozens, then hundreds, then thousands. So, fans were asked before Game 4, what exactly would it mean for the Padres to beat Los Angeles and advance to the NLCS?
“It seems like this could be one of those magical seasons. Things are lining up. To beat L.A. would be really, really awesome.” Here’s a fun fact: It took the Dodgers 53 years to finally win a World Series. This is the Padres’ 53rd crack at it as well. The Dodgers aren’t really L.A.’s team. They’re Brooklyn’s.“It would really be the first time in history that we beat the Los Angeles Dodgers for a series that meant something important to the city of San Diego,” Oceanside’s John Ogle said. “And it would show the fans in L.A. that we’re more than just Dodger Stadium south.
Proving that Padres and Dodgers fans can co-exist, Temecula’s Tim Jones, wearing a Padres hat, and Chino Hills’ Christy Dumapias, wearing a Dodgers hat, walked through the Sixth Avenue entrance together.“I don’t even want to think about that,” Christy said. “If it happens, it happens. Kudos to them because they haven’t won.Tim was counting no chickens — or geese — before the game.
