Brewers call up former Padre Colin Rea to start first game of a four-game series at Petco Park
Rea started a game for the Marlins before an elbow injury and issues with his medicals led the reversal of the Rea-Castillo part of the deal .
Rea ultimately underwent Tommy John surgery, never appeared in the majors again with the Padres and was released after the 2018 season. He spent the 2019 and 2020 seasons in the Cubs’ farm system, appeared in a game with the Brewers in 2021 and pitched last season in Japan, going 6-6 with a 3.57 ERA, 92 strikeouts and a 1.11 WHIP over 111 innings with Softbank.
Rea allowed two unearned runs in seven innings over two starts at Triple-A Nashville to start the year before he was recalled today for a spot start. has walked nearly as many as he’s struck out through his first two starts . He could not make it out of the fifth inning in his last start against the Braves. Martinez allowed four runs in nine innings last year against the Brewers, including a five-inning start in which he allowed two runs.
