The Padres on Saturday recalled reliever Dinelson Lamet from Triple-A and placed reliever Craig Stammen on the injured list with shoulder inflammation. Lamet allowed two runs and struck out 15 in 9 2/3 innings in Triple-A. Save for a two-day stay last September with flu-like symptoms, this is the first time Stammen has gone on the IL in six seasons with the Padres.The Padres will face left-hander Carlos Rodon for the second time this season.
Yu Darvish will face the Giants for the second time this season. His other start against them was his worst of the season. He recorded just five outs while the Giants scored nine runs on eight hits and two walks. Brandon Belt and Wilmer Flores were both 2-for-2 that night, and Belt homered. Belt is 3-for-32 over his past 13 games, and Flores is 4-for-26 over his past 11 games.
The Giants have lost the first two games of this series, eight of their past nine and 14 of 18 to fall to 41-41 on the season. The last time the Giants had a losing record was five games into the ’21 season . The Padres entered this series having lost nine of 12 since a three-game sweep of the Diamondbacks from June 20-22.
