Padres have never swept a five-game series vs. any team, or even won four games in a five-game series as they have so far against Rockies this week
For starters, third baseman Manny Machado and new right fielder Juan Soto will swap spots in the order behind switch-hitter Jurickson Profar. The team’s other switch-hitter, Josh Bell, will hit fourth, followed by Brandon Drury at second base and Wil Myers at first base, meaning Thursday is Jake Cronenworth’s turn for a day off.
Soto and Trent Grisham, who plays center and bats seventh, are the only left-handed hitters in the lineup. Catcher Austin Nola will bat eighth, followed by shortstop Ha-Seong Kim.The Padres are looking to secure their first ever five-game sweep. They’d never won four games in any of their previous 11 five-game series before running away with Wednesday’s game to improve to 7-8 against the Rockies this year.
Another win today also would give the Padres a season-best six-game winning streak, although the current run has not exactly allowed them to make up much ground in either of their playoff races. They remain 11½ games behind the Dodgers in the NL West and three games behind the Braves in the race for the NL’s top wild-card spot.
