San Diego Padres starting pitcher Joe Musgrove throws to the plate during the first inning of their game against the Dodgers on Wednesday night in San Diego. PITTSBURGH — Joe Musgrove wanted to be back when it mattered most, when he could contribute with the most impact.
The plan is for Musgrove, who has worked through elbow issues most of the season, to make his first big-league start in more than two months during this weekend’s series in Miami. Whether that is Friday, Saturday or Sunday has not been determined. After going on the IL this time, Musgrove rested for more about a month before resuming a throwing program in late June.
