The candidates have had their say. Today, it’s Pennsylvania voters’ turn.

Across the Keystone State, voters were headed to the polls beginning at 7 a.m. in today’s political party primaries that will set up this fall’s races to determine who goes to Washington and who sits in Harrisburg.

that pits five-term incumbent Patty Kim against Heather MacDonald, a progressive community activist employed in real estate, in the re-drawn district. Buoyed by this weekend’s endorsement from former President Trump, state Sen. Doug Mastriano is the ultra-conservative that establishment Republicans fear could keep them out of the Pa. governor’s mansion for a third straight term, as two-term Gov. Tom Wolf leaves town. Historically, the Pa. governorship has typically changed parties every two terms or so.

On the Democrat side, Lt. Gov. John Fetterman appeared to have been running away with the race, far out-distancing U.S. Rep. Conor Lamb and state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta in polls. None of this medical drama seemed to bother the few Democrats waiting for the polls to open outside the Scottish Rite polling place in Harrisburg.

“I like his stances as Lt. governor on the LGBT folks and marijuana legalization,” said Jeff Dickison, who cast his 2016 vote for Trump only to switch parties in 2020. “He just strikes me as very sincere. Not the typical politician. He seems to resonate with folks.”Stay with PennLive throughout primary election day for the latest news from central Pa. polling places.
