Amy and Drew Hoenigke leave the Sullivan County Courthouse in Laporte Thursday after waving their hearing on involuntary manslaughter and other charges in connection with the death of their newborn son.LAPORTE – A Sullivan County couple accused of gross negligence in connection with the death of their newborn child and the woman who was present for the birth are headed to trial.
They stem from state police on Jan. 20, 2022, finding the dead boy named Mahko in a wooden bassinet in an upstairs bedroom in the Hoenigke home in Cherry Twp. near Mildred. Meckes was described to police by Amy Hoenigke, 34, as a good friend who went to nursing school, didn’t pass the test and was not licensed.
Drew Hoenigke, 31, told investigators he was present for the birth but left shortly thereafter for work helping remodel a house. Drew Hoenigke is accused of not doing anything to prevent his son’s death. He related he had built a coffin for his son but the ground was frozen so he could not bury him.
