AUTHORITIES have seized some P28.9 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in a two-day anti-smuggling operation in a west coast village of Zamboanga City, the police said Friday, November 29, 2024.Police Brigadier General Bowenn Joey Masauding, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, said the smuggled cigarettes were seized in anti-smuggling operations from Wednesday, November 27, until Thursday, November 28, in Barangay Patalon, 31 kilometers west of the city proper.
Masauding said the anti-smuggling operation was launched by joint personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and Bureau of Internal Revenue pursuant to the BIR mission order. He said confiscated were some 506 master cases of assorted brands of smuggled cigarettes worth P28,993,800. The packs of cigarettes do not have internal revenue stamps.Masauding said the confiscated smuggled cigarettes are now held under the custody of the BIR regional office in Zamboanga City.
