“Most of the world suffers from ‘the Jaws effect’,” Brian Stewart notes, referring to Steven Spielberg’s 1975 film that cemented sharks’ notorious reputation in popular culture.He referred to sharks in affectionate terms—“cute,” “cheeky,” “a sweetheart.” Which makes perfect sense to Brock Cahill, a fellow “cinematic activist” from Venice, Calif., and close friend of Stewart who was with him on Stewart’s final dive.
