Thousands are without power after rain, snow and high winds arrived in western Washington Tuesday.

Southerly and southwesterly winds will increase to 20 to 30 mph for most areas by mid-Tuesday evening with gusts over 40 mph for much of the urban areas around Puget Sound. A few isolated spots near the water and near Olympia could have wind gusts to 45 mph.

The wind will be even stronger at the coast and northwest of Everett through the islands Tuesday evening and night. Winds will top 50 mph in some of these areas. Wind chills will be in the 20s overnight Tuesday with temperatures in the teens up north. The wind will calm down into Wednesday morning. We’re closely watching this evening’s forecast, as wind and heavy snow can cause tree branches to fall onto power lines.

Our crews are prepared and ready to deploy with assignments when outages occur and as soon as it’s safe to do so.
