The dashboard is part of Maryland’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan and was released at The Maryland Department of Transportation’s annual Highway Safety Summit earlier this month.

The data, gathered from state police, measures both fatal crashes , as well as fatality statistics .

So far in 2023, there have been 148 fatalities, but the death rate typically picks up in the summer when it comes to car crashes. Baltimore City has accounted for 8.5% of crash fatalities statewide but 13.6% of pedestrian fatalities. In the city, over 35% of crash fatalities since 2016 have been pedestrians.
