More than 5,000 personnel will secure the feast of the Black Nazarene this year, Manila Police District Director Police Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon said on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Dizon, in a statement, said around 3,000 MPD police officers and some 2,000 augment personnel from other support units and agencies, districts, the National Capital Regional Police Office , and other government agencies will be deployed to ensure the peaceful holding of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.Devotees will be given the opportunity to touch the image of the Black Nazarene or the “pagbibigay pugay” instead of the traditional “pahalik” at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.
The “Walk of Faith” will also be held after the 12 midnight mass on January 8 at the Quirino Grandstand. Dizon, meanwhile, assured the public that it will be a safe and peaceful celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
