Storms that moved across Ohio on Monday night and early Tuesday caused extensive outages.
John Kuntz, cleveland.comCLEVELAND, Ohio — Power companies are still working to restore electricity to hundreds of thousands of customers after severe thunderstorms Monday night and early Tuesday morning led to downed trees and power lines.
As of 11:30 p.m., AEP Ohio was reporting more than 223,000 outages across the state. FirstEnergy was reporting more than 26,000 outages, most of them in Richland County, which had over 12,000 outages. There were nearly 6,000 outages in Ashland County. FirstEnergy did not have an estimate on when power will be restored to its customers. AEP Ohio says some of its customers might not have power again until Thursday or Friday,That’s tough news for customers in areas such as Columbus, where high temperatures on Wednesday are expected to reach 96 degrees, with a heat index of 109, according to the National Weather Service. Much of central and southern Ohio is under an excessive heat warning until 8 p.m. Wednesday.
A heat advisory is in effect in Northeast Ohio from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Highs are expected to reach 96 degrees, with a heat index up to 106.
