Rowley also identified teacher recruitment and retention as a key issue. She said teacher performance should be evaluated using more than standardized tests, but also student growth, classroom management, and relationships with parents and colleagues. She praised the district for looking for creative ways to reward teachers, such as an employee health clinic.
Rowley’s strongest opponent is Snober Lakhani, 41, a registered nurse who has taken the district to task over COVID-19 protocols she believed were too lax. Lakhani is a supporter of the district’s STEAM center and would like to create a PTA for families with students in special education.
