The DEA became suspicious of Joseph Alan Childers, 37, after realizing he was making two-and-a-half-hour drives to Oakland, stopping at fast food restaurants for 30 minutes, then heading back.
SACRAMENTO — An Oroville man is facing federal charges after he allegedly admitted to federal agents that he was buying drugs in Oakland to re-distribute in his area, court records show.
Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Brian Nehring wrote in the criminal complaint that he “received information” in late 2022 that Childers was obtaining fentanyl from a Bay Area source and selling it in Butte County. The complaint says that the DEA began investigating Childers and noticed something suspicious: he was regularly making the nearly three-hour drive to Oakland, only to stay at a fast food restaurant or similar location for a few minutes, then head back.
