Billionaires are a lot like celebrity architects: They imagine something they think will look pretty, and then leave it to structural engineers to devise the foundation and gridwork that will make it stand.
Bloomberg’s cavalier relationship with Bloomberg News, his willingness to kick the can down the road and make up new justifications as he goes along, reminds us why tycoons and moguls make terrible national leaders. They’re rich, they think the world revolves around them and they don’t routinely encounter anyone who disagrees. Bloomberg’s behavior also mirrors that of Trump, who in January 2016 publicly promised to put his assets in a “” run by his children and executives.
