, face mobility issues and live at or below the poverty line, that’s no longer strictly the case. More and more of our senior meal recipients could be considered middle class. They’re the retired professionals living on a fixed income, or previously financially comfortable older adults who were forced out of employment earlier because of the risks to their health posed by the pandemic.By 2030, San Diego County is expected to have nearly 1 million residents over the age of 60.
Local government authorities need to invest more creatively in ways to support seniors who are forced to choose between food and rent, or gas and co-pays. This includes funding more organizations that provide home-delivered meals and other essential services to seniors where they are.
