Asian Americans have spent decades fighting for fair education. Like other racialized minority groups such as Black, Latina/o and Indigenous peoples, Asian Americans have faced longstanding exclusion from the education system. More than a century ago, in the wake of Asian exclusion, Chinese, Japanese and Korean children in San Francisco were forced to attend segregated schools.

The dissenting opinions in the affirmative action case from Justices Kentani Brown Jackson and Sonia Sotomayor also downplay the history of racism against Asian people in America and offer no plausible explanation of how affirmative action can help Asian Americans fight against discriminatory admissions practices and education inequality.
