Opinion: CPUC solar decision is a reasonable compromise [Opinion]

” : The story begins with the statement that the California Public Utilities Commission ruling affects “the 1.6 million California homeowners who have installed rooftop solar.”

I think the article fails to point out clearly that the ruling also allows advancement of solar in the only way it can be advanced — with the addition of energy storage through the use of batteries. That is accomplished in the CPUC ruling by adding batteries to all new solar installations in California.Without that, utilities would have to dump added solar power — a scenario now affecting other states with lots of sunshine and too many rooftop solar installations.

Advancement of battery storage at taxpayer expense — ahead of adding more rooftop solar — would of course be another solution. Do we want that? I don’t.
