The government’s next read on D-FW’s inflation rate comes on Oct. 13, well after the Federal Reserve is expected to raise interest rates.
But here’s one that civic boosters aren’t likely to boast about.
The metro area checks in as the nation’s fifth highest for its year-over-year rise in inflation, according toTo determine where the cost of everything from gasoline to grocery items is rising the most, WalletHub compared 23 major metro areas on two key metrics involving the consumer price index: the latest month for which Bureau of Labor Statistics data is available to two months prior and one year prior to get a snapshot of inflation’s short- and long-term changes.
“The surprisingly strong across-the-board August CPI report indicates that inflation continues to be more persistent than desired,” said Oxford Economics chief U.S. economist Kathy Bostjancic in a statement. “Food prices maintained their steep upward trend, climbing another 0.8%. This lifted the year-on-year rate from 10.9% to 11.4%, the fastest pace since May 1979.”
In Texas, reporting of local CPI data alternates each month between D-FW and the Houston metro area. This was Houston’s month, with the Gulf Coast city and surrounding communities seeing a 9.5% year-over-year increase in prices.. The next read on D-FW’s inflation rate comes on Oct. 13. Before then, all eyes will be on the Federal Reserve, which has pledged to tame inflation by raising interest rates. The Fed meets next week and is widely expected to raise rates by three-quarters of a percent.on Aug. 31 in her first town hall meeting since taking over the job.
