These puffy G-Wagons will be packed with modern six-cylinder engines
It’s interesting when fashion brands team up with manufacturers. Take the, ‘Project G-Class Past II Future,’ for instance—a mash-up between Mercedes-Benz and the maker of audacious puffer jackets, Moncler.
Based on a G-Class from the ‘90s, Japanese musician and designer NIGO has also been involved, lending a hand in reworking various style elements, both inside and out, to give the old workhorse a fresh look. Unfortunately, that cabriolet is a one-off, so you'll need to settle for one of the newer hard tops pictured instead. Provided you can secure one of the 20 build slots in the first place.
The good work continues inside, where a corresponding model number plaque occupies the center console, the seats wear checkered upholstery, and orange-gold accents have been pasted throughout. The restored wooden rear floor also gets a boom box thrown in. Yes, a boom box. Remember those, you cool cats?Customers will get to choose between two six-cylinder engines from the current generation G-Wagon: the G450’s 385hp mild-hybrid or the furious 445hp one from the G500.
Speaking on the collaboration, NIGO said, “For me, the ’90s were among the most influential decades from a cultural and creative standpoint. Electronic music and the hip-hop scene arose as a new expression of urban character. I wanted to integrate that vibe and energy into the design of the Project G-Class Past II Future by interpreting that legacy for a new contemporary era.”
No word on pricing, but we do know deliveries will begin in April 2025. We reckon it might be cheaper to get an old G350 and a wardrobe filled with puffer jackets instead, though.See Also Read Next PIMS 2024: Five units of Honda Civic Type R Group A available for PH market View other articles about:
