The identity of the person who died is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, officials said in a news release.
A person died during a house fire in Montgomery Sunday morning, officials said. At approximately 8:47 a.m., Montgomery police responded to a structure fire at a home in the 1800 block of Ness Way, according to a joint press release from the Montgomery Police Department and the Sugar Grove Fire Protection District. When they arrived, responding officers found a two-story home with noticeable black smoke and evidence of an active fire, according to the release.
We will continue to support the family and the investigation,” Montgomery Police Chief Phil Smith and Sugar Grove Fire Protection District Fire Chief Brendan Moran said in a joint statement. A Montgomery Police Department social worker was on the scene to assist and will continue to stay involved in the case as a support to the family as they grieve, according to the release.
