BigVision, a group dedicated to “sober socializing” has turned to more online events, like a recent talk by justBobbiBrown, during the pandemic.
“I am humbled by what you do and so happy to speak to you guys today,” Brown said to some 150 viewers and Eve Goldberg, the founder of BigVision, who six years ago lost her son, Isaac, at age 23 to an accidental overdose. “I came to BigVision recently because my best girlfriend, Amy, went through a similar thing and lost our Jakey,” Brown said, choking up. “I am going to try not to cry but to use my heart for giving back.
To that end, BigVision’s goal has never been to provide treatment but rather fun, sober, free events around the city and a community of like-minded friends for support. What started as a free go-kart event attended by 20 young people has now grown into a grassroots community with hundreds of young adults meeting up frequently every month for organized events.
Goldberg is now seeing the benefits of BigVision’s new digital community. Followers from all over the country and world tuned in for the Brown event, sending an array of questions for her to answer, including one asking, “Are any of your three sons married?” Answer: One is engaged, one has a girlfriend, and her “baby,” the youngest, is cute and single. All, she said, are currently quarantining with her, as well as her 31-year-old nephew, who is also single and “very cute,” she added.
