Olivia Wilde got candid about getting served custody papers this year while she presented the first trailer for DontWorryDarling at CinemaCon. 'I chose to become an actress...walked into the spotlight...it’s not something my children ... asked for.'
Don't Worry Darling director Olivia Wilde gets candid about being served custody papers while presenting her film on-stage at CinemaCon. The film event took place from April 25 - 28 and offered plenty of insights on upcoming films from major studios including Universal, Sony, Paramount, and Warner Bros. The most recent trailer for Don't Worry Darling, the second film Wilde has directed in which she also co-stars alongside Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, and Chris Pine, debuted at CinemaCon.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Wilde opened the envelope and read the contents on stage before continuing her Don't Worry Darling presentation. Though initial conjecture said that the papers were an unsolicited script, news quickly broke that Wilde had been served custody papers from her ex-fiancé, Ted Lasso's Jason Sudeikis. The pair had been together for seven years and split up in 2020.
“It was my workplace. In any other workplace, it would be seen as an attack. It was really upsetting. It shouldn’t have been able to happen. There was a huge breach in security, which is really scary. The hurdles that you had to jump through to get into that room with several badges, plus special COVID tests that had to be taken days in advance, which gave you wristbands that were necessary to gain access to the event — this was something that required forethought.
Wilde's comments offer a measured and candid response to the unfortunate situation, which she handled at the time with the utmost composure. Since Don't Worry Darling marks the second film Wilde has directed, it is regrettable that the exciting career milestone was possibly marred by the serving of papers.
Despite what happened at CinemaCon, the trailer for Wilde's second film earned an animated response from the crowd. Don't Worry Darling has made headlines several times over the past few weeks due to unsubstantiated reports about tensions between Styles, Wilde, and Pugh as well as the official news about Shia LaBeouf's dismissal from the lead role.
