Here is a breakdown of the OHSAA Division I volleyball playoffs.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — While Magnificat won a Division I state title in volleyball in 2021, for the most part, Northeast Ohio has struggled to bring the big-school championship trophy back home.
Since 1990, when the OHSAA went to its current division format, only Magnificat, Brecksville-Broadview Heights , Olmsted Falls , Stow-Munroe Falls and Canton McKinley have done so. Southwest Ohio has dominated things during that time period, as schools from Cincinnati have won 22 titles in 32 years.
This year it appears there could be more of the same, as the defending state champion is Cincinnati Ursuline Academy — which defeated Magnificat in four sets in last year’s final — and the state’s top-ranked team currently is Cincinnati Seton.
