The most common nicknames for grandparents amongst Ohioans are "mamaw" and "papaw," according to a recent study from Preply.BROOKLINE, Mass. – Grandparents offer their grandchildren wisdom, and in return grandchildren offer their grandparents affectionate nicknames, such as “granny” “nana,” “gramps,” and more.
Amongst Ohioans, specifically, the most common nickname for a grandmother is “mamaw” and the most common nickname for a grandfather is “papaw,” according to Preply’s Most Popular Grandparent Nicknames in Each State report. The study surveyed 1,500 Americans across all 50 U.S. states to compile data on individuals’ relationship with their grandparents.
Aside from nicknames, 68% of respondents said they would rather spend time with their grandparents than their own parents.
