ODOT said the worker, Marty Crane was killed on the job on SR-60 in Muskingum County
on June 7 in what they have referred to as a tragic work zone incident.
“Marty embodied excellence every day. His passion for his work was evident in everything he did," ODOT District 5 Deputy Director Jason Sturgeon said in a media release, "and his dedication and positive attitude inspired everyone around him. He truly loved his job and approached each task with enthusiasm and integrity."
Crane began working for ODOT in 2009 as a highway technician in Perry County. In 2023, he was promoted to the role of project inspector in ODOT's construction office. "His death leaves a void among us and reminds us of the fragility and preciousness of life," ODOT Director Jack Marchbanks said. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating this incident as a crash. As it happened on an active work site, OSHA and the Ohio Bureau of Worker's Compensation are also investigating.
