Ryan Keim challenges Esther Sanchez instead of seeking reelection to district seat
Oceanside’s mayoral election in November will send one of the two candidates home from their City Hall office.
An attorney and Oceanside native, Sanchez has served on the City Council since she was first elected in November 2000. She won her first term as mayor in 2020. Keim leads Sanchez in fundraising with $51,921.76 in contributions from Jan. 1 through June 30 this year. Sanchez raised $30,281 during the same months, according to forms filed with the Oceanside City Clerk’s Office.
“Big money is always a red flag to voters and should be, especially when most of it is from out-of-town developers, corporations and ,” Sanchez said. Other significant donations to Bassett’s 2024 campaign include a total of $3,745 from Suzanne Weatherly, $2,945 from John Murphy, and $2,625 from Colleen O’Harra, all Oceanside residents.
District 4 Councilmember Peter Weiss has filed as a candidate for re-election to a second four-year term. A former Oceanside city manager, he was appointed mayor in January 2018 and then elected to the District 4 seat in 2020.
