“I guess to summarize, everybody needs to chill out about the candidates,” the former president said, as the room broke into laughter. and other centrist aspirants are pushing. On Friday, Obama sought to rebalance. “I said something earlier that one aspect of it got amplified and one aspect of it did not get as much notice...I said I think it’s important for us to remind ourselves of where voters are in a general election, which is different from a Democratic primary.
Later in the conversation with Perez, Obama emphasized income inequality as one of the issues that has evolved. “I think it is very important to the Democratic Party that we are clear and bold about saying that we are going to take on some structural changes. We are going to initiate structural changes that reduce that inequality. And that is not just a matter of taxation. It is a matter of what our labor laws are,” he said, striking a tone not dissimilar to Sanders and Warren.
