West Oakland thriller: McClymonds survives an incredible San Ramon Valley rally
OAKLAND – Jaivian Thomas ran for four touchdowns, each one seemingly more improbable than the last.
By the time the Wolves got him on the ground, Thomas had run for 41 yards that reclaimed some momentum. A few more carries got McClymonds into scoring range, and Isaac Espinosa kicked a short field goal for the decisive points. “That’s a darn good football team, and to be honest they were way better than the team we played last week” McClymonds coach Michael Peters said, comparing San Ramon Valley to Pittsburg. “Their quarterback was better, and he did a great job, and I’m just happy we pulled out the win.”
Baker once again tied the game with 7:22 left in the half, rolling away from pressure and heaving a 60-yard bomb to Padrid between McClymonds’ safeties. McClymonds tacked on two more rushing touchdowns before halftime, the first another elusive dash by Thomas for 18 yards and a score. “I heard that he was completing 73 percent of his passes this year,” Peters said, clearly impressed with Baker’s accuracy. “Well now he might be completing 93 percent of them after tonight.”
