“You’re going to be more active free agency when you didn’t have a good year and you didn’t sign your players from last year back,” O’Day said. “When you’re 6-and-12 and you don’t make the playoffs in a nine-team league, there are going to be changes. Going into free agency we have a plan in place and we’re excited about where it’s going right now.”
Robertson led the Riders with nine sacks despite missing four games with a foot injury. Lanier had eight sacks in 11 regular-season games. Dean was second on the Riders with 101 defensive tackles. Sankey, who led the CFL with 120, remains unsigned. O’Day said that Teitz is expected to return as the weak-side linebacker. Offensive tackle is a position that needs to be addressed and the Riders may dive into the free-agent pool to fill that need.
