NYPD: Multistate investigation underway for homeless-targeting suspect - NewYork
is underway to find the person behind a number of shootings targeting homeless people.
Police say five homeless men, three in Washington D.C. and two in New York City, have been shot in just a matter of days. They believe the shootings are connected. The majority of the victims were sleeping when they were shot. Police believe the suspect captured on footage shot five homeless men. Two of them have died. Disturbing video shows the person walking up to the sleeping homeless person and shooting them.
Activists took to lower Manhattan to demand for safer streets Sunday night calling for people to stop vilifying the homeless and instead make sure they have adequate resources. They're calling for the city to provide more in the way of a safe haven. Mayor Eric Adams and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser released a joint statement saying, "It is heartbreaking and tragic to know that in addition to all the dangers that unsheltered residents face, we now have a cold-blooded killer on the loose, but we are certain that we will get the suspect off the street and into police custody.”Another homeless person was shot and killed in Manhattan Sunday night. The NYPD says it's unclear if their death is also connected.
