For the second time this week, city Department of Correction officers thwarted an attempt to smuggle Oxycodone pills inside one of the units on Rikers Island, officials said. Tyaisha Beshawna Rogers, 22, was arrested Thursday after allegedly attempting to sneak 150 blue Oxy pills — valued at $15,000 — into the visitors’ center of the Robert N. Davoren facility, where she was supposed to be meeting inmate Angel Lopez, a reputed gangbanger arrested in Brooklyn for weapons possession.
Inside the contraband, officers also recovered 23 grams of marijuana, and eight grams of tobacco, authorities said. It’s estimated that the value of each pill, if sold to other people in custody, is approximately $100, which would make the package value $15,000, a DOC spokesman said. It’s estimated that the value of each pill if sold to other people in custody is approximately $100, which would make the package value $15,000, a DOC spokesman said.
