While she was in Paris on a buying trip for her previous employer, a major department store in her native Norway, her boyfriend of 10 years, high school sweetheart Petter Ravn Dossland, made a surprise visit. Tired after a long day, Annabel told him she preferred to go straight to dinner rather than meet at Luxembourg Gardens as he had suggested.
As the pair like to do things in style—Annabel, a self-described “Scandi creative mind,” has more than 81,000 followers; Petter works at an investment bank—they took their time planning the perfect wedding. Good weather, food, and wine were compelling arguments for choosing Italy. With the help of, they found a venue that could accommodate a party of 80: a dreamy olive farm in southern Tuscany’s Montemerano, which has been owned by the same family since the 14th century.
To reduce stress levels, and check out the venue in person, Annabel and Petter arrived on the Tuesday before the June 23 wedding, along with their closest family members and wedding party. On Friday, more guests started arriving to find their hosts lounging by the pool. The rehearsal dinner was a Tuscan barbecue followed by a night of dancing to ’80s music.
Saturday morning started leisurely, with a morning swim. Then it was time to get ready. “My idea,” explains Annabel, who did her own makeup, “was to look like myself and let the dress speak for itself.” And what a dress it was. Six months before the wedding, she realized that the dress she had thought was the “one” was not. “It is amazing, but I could easily have worn it to a summer party,” Annabel notes.
Annabel’s father walked her down the “aisle” to a big oak tree by the pool while a saxophonist played “Moon River.” The master of ceremonies’s speech was based on answers Annabel and Petter wrote, individually, to a questionnaire, which “was unlike anything I’ve experienced before and gave the ceremony a touching feeling,” the bride says.
