Police Regional Office-10 reported a generally peaceful New Year's Eve in Northern Mindanao, with few incidents related to fireworks and firearms.

Jan 1, 2025 02:06 PM CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Police Regional Office-10 said the New Year ’s celebration in Northern Mindanao was generally peaceful as several stations destroyed illegal firecrackers from unscrupulous sellers. In a statement on Wednesday, PRO-10 chief Police Brig. Gen. Jaysen de Guzman said only three fireworks-related incidents and two cases of illegal firearm discharge were reported from Dec. 23 to Dec. 31, 2024.

‘Our proactive security measures, combined with the unwavering support of the community, have ensured that the New Year festivities in Northern Mindanao remained orderly and safe,' he said. De Guzman said a total of P150,867 worth of illegal firecrackers were seized in December. The Cagayan de Oro City Police Office destroyed a portion of the seized contraband amounting to P42,745. The Bukidnon Police Provincial Office also said it has destroyed several seized illegal firecrackers on Dec. 31. Meanwhile, De Guzman ordered that police personnel deployed in the region maintain continued vigilance as work and classes resume on Thursday. (PNA
