North Korea's latest round of missile tests follows calls for reunification by South Korea's president and war games between U.S. and South Korean forces.
Replicas of a North Korean Scud-B missile and South Korea's Hawk missiles at the Korean War Memorial in Seoul: North Korea has rejected peace talks with the South Korea and launched its sixth test of short-range missiles in less than a month, in a pushback against South Korean President Moon Jae-in's calls for reunification, and military exercises with U.S. forces.
The missiles were fired at 8am on Friday local time, and flew for 140 miles, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, said. The move was the latest in a series of tests in response to ongoing military drills between South Korea and the U.S. The ramped up testing comes despite Kim Jong-un and President Donald Trump's agreement to resume denuclearization talks in June, after they collapsed in February.
On Thursday, President Moon called for the reunification of the peninsula by 2045 in a televised speech marking the anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japanese rule.
