(UPDATE) University of Santo Tomas handed De La Salle its first loss of the UAAP Season 85 women's volleyball tournament as it notched its second straight win, 25-19, 14-25, 25-18, 25-12, on Sunday, April 2 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Eya Laure poured 29 points on a 45 percent efficiency attack clip to lead the third seed Golden Tigresses, who improved to a 7-3 win-loss card. The Lady Spikers, on the other hand, stayed atop the team standings but fell to a 9-1 slate as their loss denied them of securing a Final Four spot today.Milena Alessandrini also came through with 20 points on top of nine excellent receptions, while Regina Jurado got 12 points and 12 digs.
'This win is huge for us because the third and fourth seed teams are neck and neck so this win would somehow give us a deciding factor in the middle of the tournament,' said UST head coach Kungfu Reyes. With Laure, Jurado and Alessandrini taking their scoring turns, the Golden Tigresses left the Lady Spikers in the dust in the fourth frame as they raced to an 18-8 advantage following an Alessandrini through the block attack.
