Como inmigrante de primera generación, soy profundamente consciente de estas injusticias. Nací y crecí en un pueblo rural de Puebla, México, y emigré a Nueva York con mis padres cuando tenía 10 años. En mi pequeña ciudad, ya desde muy pequeña me empecé a dar cuenta de que había muchas formas en las que las mujeres de mi familia no tenían el control sobre sus propios cuerpos y no tenían acceso a los cuidados necesarios.
Los derechos de los inmigrantes son derechos reproductivos y la justicia para los inmigrantes es justicia reproductiva. Cuando la realidad a la que se enfrentan las comunidades latinas y migrantes es tan terrible, puede resultar difícil celebrar las partes hermosas de nuestras culturas. En momentos como éste, es imperativo que promovamos los tipos de movimientos, legislación y esfuerzos de base que se centren directamente estas cuestiones.
