Thirty years after the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson, a new two-part Lifetime documentary will put the focus on her life before her tragic death.
“I think it’s important that people get to know my sister,” one of Brown’s three sisters — all of whom are interviewed for the documentary — said in the trailer for. Another sister added, “It’s been 30 years. Maybe it’s time to rekindle the flame of Nicole.”
“The documentary provides an opportunity for Nicole’s own narrative and voice to be heard in one of the most notorious crimes and trials in history,” Lifetime added of the two-part documentary, which will air June 1 and 2 as part of the network’s Stop Violence Against Women initiative. “The project features 50 participants, including those who knew Nicole the best – her friends and family – to shed new light on her life and tragic death. With unprecedented access to exclusive home videos and interviews, the documentary will reveal shocking new details in the tragic story.”
The trailer gives a preview of some of the “unprecedented access” filmmakers received, including Brown Simpson’s handwritten diary, where she details incidents of abuse she suffered at the hands of O.J. “So why are you with him? What are you doing?” her sister said she asked Nicole in the trailer.last month’s death of O.J. Simpson— the project had actually been in the works for over a year and planned for release next month to mark the 30th anniversary of Brown Simpson’s June 1994 deaths.
“What happened to our sister Nicole should never have happened to her or to any other woman,” the Brown sisters said ofin a statement. “Her life was stolen from her and while her abuser is finally gone, it doesn’t take away the anguish we feel or the pain of her children who lost their mother. We hope that by sharing Nicole’s story, it will help others recognize the signs and get the help they need and her legacy will continue to live on.
