Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich called President Joe Biden a"weak" president but believes that Biden will hold a strong advantage in the 2024 election due to being an incumbent.
However, Gingrich said despite Biden's performance as president, the incumbency advantage should protect Biden from any serious challenges he may receive in the Democratic primary. When asked about the Republican primary for the 2024 presidential election, Gingrich called Trump"clearly the front-runner" but also said"you can't rule out" Gov. Ron DeSantis and added that Gov. Glenn Youngkin's record is"very attractive." He did warn, however, that"many things can happen" in the primary.
