A deadly dose of fentanyl can be as little as 2 milligrams, according to federal authorities. San Francisco had more than 620 accidental overdoses last year.
SAN FRANCISCO — In the six weeks since Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a partnership between the state and City of San Francisco to aid in its fight against fentanyl, more than 4.2 kilograms of the drug have been seized in the city’s Tenderloin and the immediate surrounding area, according to a news release from the Governor’s office.
The operation granted the CHP a special focus on drug trafficking enforcement and the ability to assist local authorities with investigations into complicated drug-related cases. California State Guard members were tasked with providing analysis on dangerous fentanyl rings across the city. On Thursday, Newsom announced that more than 4.2 kilograms of fentanyl had been seized by the CHP since May 1 in the Tenderloin and surrounding area. A deadly dose of the drug can be as little as 2 milligrams,San Francisco had 620 accidental fatal fentanyl overdoses in 2022, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
