Gov. RonDeSantis currently has an even chance as Gov. GavinNewsom of being elected president in the 2024 elections, according to one oddsmaker.
PredictIt currently has both DeSantis and Newsom at 15 cents a share to win the White House in next year's election despite Newsom not being a declared candidate.President Joe Biden leads the field at 44 cents a share, followed by former President Donald Trump at 29 cents a share, with DeSantis and Newsom tied for third at 15 cents a share and Vice President Kamala Harris at 4 cents a share.
DeSantis's odds hit their most recent peak on June 10, when he was at 27 cents a share, but have since fallen over the past month, while Newsom's odds have rocketed from 5 cents a share on June 10 to the current 15 cents a share odds, per the betting website. For the Democratic nomination, Biden is the heavy favorite at 68 cents a share followed by Newsom at 18 cents a share. The only declared challenger to Biden on the Democratic side, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is behind Newsom at 12 cents a share.
The odds for the Republican nomination strongly favor Trump, with 57 cents a share, while DeSantis is at 23 cents a share, and Sen. Tim Scott , entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie are each at 6 cents a share.
DeSantis, meanwhile, has remained behind Trump in the polls and is in terms of his positioning in the GOP field throughout the month of June. The RealClearPolitics polling average shows Trump ahead of the field with 53% and DeSantis at 20.9%, while no other candidate has more than 7%.
