New York City allocates $250,000 for abortions, helping women who travel from other states:

New York City will help poor women — including women who travel from other states — obtain abortions, The New York Times reports, with the city allocating $250,000 toward the initiative. The money, which will go to the nonprofit New York Abortion Access Fund, represents a symbolic move, as more conservative states take steps to restrict and ban abortion, the Times reports.
“There haven’t been that many city and state public officials to say we should publicly fund abortions. It’s a big statement,” Aziza Ahmed, a law professor at Northeastern University in Boston, said. “This is a culture war, to some degree.” Nine states have passed laws to restrict abortion this year, the Times reports, prompting legal battles that abortion opponents hope will lead the Supreme Court to rethink the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion. In turn, several states have passed legislation that would strengthen abortion rights.
